Amsterdam,
September 1st, 2005. Nikon proves once more its imaging leadership
with the launch of the world’s
first built-in Wi-Fi digital compact cameras, the COOLPIX P1
and P2.
Wireless
photography, a must have. The COOLPIX P1 and P2 – P1
is available in black and silver – empower users the freedom
to shoot, transfer and print images wherever they are, in style
and at an incredible speed.
The new models
of Nikon’s award-winning COOLPIX family
are aimed at consumers looking for the very latest camera technology
to add to their portfolio of wireless devices in and outside
the home. The COOLPIX P1 and P2 can be incorporated into a home-based
Wi-Fi environment, simplifying image transmission to a computer
or a printer without any strings attached.
The COOLPIX
P1 boasts 8 Megapixels resolution – the P2
offers 5.1 Megapixels – 3.5x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens and
a large 2.5-inch LCD monitor for easy viewing. The models offer
instant start-up, fast continuous shooting at up to 2.5 frames
per second (fps) and high quality VGA movie mode with e-VR at
30 fps generating true-colour reproduction. Sales start in September
2005 at a price of xxx Euro (P1) resp. xxx Euro (P2).*
In addition to the exciting new Wi-Fi capability, both the COOLPIX
P1 and P2 also offer Aperture-priority Auto mode for greater
manual control over the results. Aperture-priority allows the
photographer to play around with depth of field, i.e. focusing
on an object or face while the rest of the photo is blurred.
Besides this there is an array of exclusive in-camera functions
to be discovered including Face-priority AF, D-Lighting and
Red-Eye Fix to help the users improve their images with ease.
D-Lighting brings out optimal detail and contrast by compensating
for underexposed areas without affecting properly exposed ones.
Finding faces:
The clever Face-priority AF employs advanced technologies to
automatically locate and focus on people’s
faces, ensuring great portraits with sharp focus every time.
The In-Camera Red-Eye fix corrects automatically the annoying
red-eye effect that sometimes occurs in flash photography for
pleasing, natural-looking results.
With an EN-EL8 rechargeable Li-ion battery, supplied with both
models, the COOLPIX P1 can take approximately 180 images, while
the P2 can handle 190 shots.
Martina Beckmann,
Manager Communications & Marketing at
Nikon Europe, said: “We live in an increasingly wireless
world and we are proud to be leading the Wi-Fi revolution on
the digital camera platform with these pioneering COOLPIX P1
and P2 models.”
