My photography can best be described as photographic minimalisme.
I look for a certain tranquility in my work, this to counterbalance a
feeling of unrest and dissatisfaction with the fast
society in which we live.
The
photographs are often of a graphic nature in which the
original subject is isolated from it's surroundings consequently
taking on an identity
of it's own.
To
me photography equals emotion, when out with my camera
the things I encounter are determined by my spiritual state
of mind.
My work is mainly inspired by Greece and in particular
by the Cylcladic island of Paros where I have lived and
worked since the early eighties. During my first visit
I immediatly fell in love with the special light, the warm
vibrant colours, the architecture of human proportions,
and of course the people of the island.
Often I compare photography with long distance running,
sometimes I can go for days on end without finding a single
composition and then, after turning off, there it is staring
me straight in the face. |
